At Haul our principled approach to building product is that anything we build should make the life of our user less sucky.

Compliance should not be sucky.

It should be meaningful and joyful because compliance is important to operate a safe fleet and safe fleets save lives.

Safety managers spent a lot of time doing tasks that are repetitive, some are extremely clear (because of a safety S.O.P in place) or some are more nuanced (like dealing with human behaviors). We believe with the advancement of LLMs today, AI can help.

For deterministic, process driven tasks, software can do an extremely good job here to automate the boring part of the job. Things like:

  • Check expiration dates of every single documents of every single driver
  • Audit a DQ File to ensure it meets federal and state regulations

These repetitive but essential tasks, when automated, free up valuable time for safety managers to focus on high-impact decision-making rather than administrative drudgery.

However, not all compliance tasks are black-and-white. Situations involving driver behavior, nuanced interpretations of safety protocols, or complex incident responses require more flexibility. Here’s where we leverage the latest advancements in AI, particularly in the realm of Large Language Models (LLMs), to go beyond basic automation and enable nuanced decision-making support. By training AI systems to understand the specifics of safety culture and human behavior in the trucking industry, we aim to create tools that assist, not replace, our human users.

Our approach at Haul is not about removing the human element from compliance but rather elevating it. By offloading routine checks and documentation audits to AI, safety managers can invest their expertise and judgment in more meaningful areas: coaching drivers, refining safety programs, and cultivating a safety-first culture across the fleet.

AI enables Haul to integrate advanced analytics, sentiment analysis, and predictive insights into our platform, helping safety managers anticipate and prevent potential issues before they arise. For instance, analyzing patterns in driver incidents can reveal trends that warrant proactive intervention, allowing teams to address risks before they escalate into larger problems.

When we talked to our users, safety managers love how A.I. enabled feature such as the ability to parse medical certificate info and grab a proof from the National Registry save everyone time and drastically reducing jobs fatigue. These are the kind of workflows that we are doubling down on.

We envision compliance not as a burden, but as a dynamic process enhanced by AI—making safety management not only more efficient but also more rewarding. This principled approach drives everything we do at Haul, reinforcing our mission: automated compliance for a #safer road.
